South Asian Artistic Gymnastics to begin on Oct 27

The logo of the tournament was unveiled at Dhaka Club on Saturday. Apart from Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka, India, Uzbekistan and Pakistan are participating in this year's event. About 170 personnel including 67 gymnasts from six countries will be participating in the event. A

Banafuly bags bronze for BD while Uzbeks keep dominating

Uzbek gymnasts kept their domination intact in the Bangabandhu 5th Central South Asian Artistic Gymnastics Championship with seven gold medals while hosts Bangladesh bagged a bronze medal on the second day of the six-nation event at Shaheed Suhrawardi Indoor Stadium in Mirpur yesterday. Hot favourites Uzbekistan grabbed gold and silver in women's senior individual vault event, as predicted, with the gold and silver going to Miroshnichenko Anastsiya and Jumabekova Gulnaz, who scored 12.88 and 12.82, respectively, while Bangladesh's Banafuly Chakma grabbed the bronze medal after scoring an impressive 12.42 points.

Rajib shines among the local gymnasts

Bangladesh's Rajib Chakma performs in men's (junior) individual floor exercise event, where he won the silver medal on the third and final day of Bangabandhu 5th Central South Asian Artistic Gymnastics Championship at the Suhrawardi Indoor Stadium in Mirpur yesterday. Time to take sports seriously

angladesh has always been a sports-loving nation. Sports brings people together irrespective of religion or social and economic background. Our women's football or cricket teams are obvious examples of how sports can promote women's empowerment and gender equality. Bangladesh's women footballers are now competing with foreign women football leagues which was unthinkable even a few years ago. Sports has numerous positive impacts on education, health, trade, tourism, industrialisation, technology and social cohesion. So it goes without saying that sports must be given priority in the national budget. In 2017 the global sports market generated revenue of around USD 91 billion.
