KK roundtable: Experts for early scanning to prevent breast cancer
Expert physicians have underscored need for increasing scanning of breast cancer to prevent the disease at primary stage.
Addressing a roundtable on Thursday, speakers also urged for continuation of physical exercise and avoidance of unhealthy food to reduce risk of breast cancer.
Daily Kaler Kantho organised the discussion in association with Evercare Hospital at the head office of the newspaper at Bashundhara Residential Area in the capital on Thursday.
Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Sharfuddin Ahmed was the chief guest and Additional Director General of DGHS Dr Nasima Sultana special guest.
Evercare Hospital deputy director Dr Arif Mahmud made address of welcome while Kaler Kantho acting editor Shahed Mohammad Ali conducted the session.
BSMMU Vice-Chancellor Prof Sharfuddin Ahmed urged public-private hospital to develop the oncology department to ensure proper treatment of cancer patients.
Dr Arif Mahmud of Evercare said there are around 2 lakh of people affected with cancer in Bangladesh annually, but there are only 150 physician for its treatment.
Speakers also requested the government to conduct research on cancer and bring the women under scanning to prevent the disease with modern treatment.
